Melanostop Peel FAQ
The melanostop peel is a chemical peel comprised of 20% azelaic acid, 10% resorcinol, 6% phytic acid, 3% tranexamic acid.
It is suitable for all skin types but specifically designed to treat superficial and epidermal pigmented lesions, particularly developed for the treatment of age spots and freckles.
Skin hyperpigmentation is caused by abnormal production of melanin, the pigment responsible for skin colour, and a consequence of uncontrolled, localised overproduction of melanin inside the melanocyte, which causes irregular skin colouration and dark spots. Numerous external and internal factors can cause hyperpigmentation:
• Genetic Tendency • Ageing
• Sun Exposure • Exposure to Chemicals
• Inflammation • Photosensitising medication
• Hormonal Changes
This is a gentle peel with little to no downtime. It renews the epidermal layers, while increasing its thickness and lightening the skin using a innovative blend of skin specific acids.
A course of 6 treatments 2 weeks apart are recommended. For optimum results we recommend combining this with pigment reducing skincare.
Laser is a commonly used, highly effective treatment. It is particularly effective for low and medium phototype skins (phototype 1-3) where hyperpigmentation is more visible on the skin surface. Even so, the professional must recommend a maintenance treatment to prevent the reappearance. In higher phototypes (phototype 4-6) however, laser is less effective, and the likelihood of postinflammatory hyperpigmentation is higher. The melanostop peels are better tolerated, more efficient and involve a lower risk of recurrence and a longer-lasting result.
There is some very mild stinging during the treatment but this is easily tolerated by the majority of clients, pre treatment skin numbing is not necessary and the peel is only on the skin for 5 minutes.
There is minimal to no downtime following a melanostop peel, you may experience some very mild skin shedding however this is very rare.
