What are Dark Circles?

Dark circles are characterised as dark purple or pigmented skin around the eyes, especially the under eye. They can be exacerbated by lines, wrinkles and thinning skin.

What are the common causes of Dark Circles?

  • Tiredness – this is the most common cause, if you don’t get enough sleep it causes the dark circles to get worse causing you to look tired
  • Diet – having a bad diet, including drinking a lot of caffeine and not enough water can be contributing factors
  • Skin thinning – this is natural with ageing, the thinning skin can result in the muscle under the eye being visible through the skin and resulting in it looking worse
  • Pigmentation – most commonly seen in darker skin types, this can be hereditary but the previous causes can lead to them appearing worse.

Every skin condition is different and can be influenced by many factors so we would always recommend an initial consultation where a full skin analysis will be performed to determine the correct treatment plan to fit your goals, budget and lifestyle.

NO! Vaseline is just used to lock in moisture, it will not treat or repair dark circles. With continued use it can lead to a build up of vaseline being collected in sacks under the skin which would then need to be surgically removed. We would never advise anyone to apply vaseline around their eyes or onto their skin.
