What is a Scar?

Scars are fibrous tissue that replace normal skin tissue following injury, it is a natural part of the healing process. Scar tissue is composed of collagen (the same as healthy skin), but the fibre composition of it is different. The collagen fibres found in fibrosis tissue cross-links and forms a pronounced alignment in a single direction resulting in a scar.

How best to treat Scars?

To effectively reduce the appearance of scars, we must stimulate new collagen to replace the collagen fibres in the scar. We use either eTwo sublative fractional laser or microneedling to create a controlled wound and stimulate the body’s wound healing response, resulting in new collagen formation.

Collagen synthesis takes 6 weeks to peak so treatments are advised with a 6 week gap and will typically take between 3-6 sessions to get a significant improvement depending on the severity, age and depth of the scar.

The goal with scar treatment is to achieve a lightening and reduction in its appearance, it is unlikely to completely remove it.

Every scar is different and can be influenced by many factors so we would always recommend an initial consultation where a full skin analysis will be performed to determine the correct treatment plan to fit your goals, budget and lifestyle.

All of our treatments are results driven and clinically proven to make sure you get the skin that you deserve.

In clinic treatments performed by a Aesthetician or medical practitioner are the safest and most effective way of improving the appearance of scars. Laser fractional resurfacing treatments or microneedling are best in clinic treatment to stimulate new collagen, replacing the collagen fibres in the scar. These procedures are best carried out 6 months after the scarring has been made while it is still pink as this will provide the best results. Older scarring can be improved but may require more treatment.

Yes, red colouring should over time, when the scar is red this is the best time to treat it. Pigmented scarring should fade within 6 months, but in some cases will not disappear without treatment. Acne scars – Develops from acne, most commonly from acne cysts, that have popped or burst. They can appear as pitted, or like a visibly deep pore on the skin surface.
Hypertrophic scars – Similar to keloid scarring, it is a result from an excess amount of collagen being produced in the area. They do not extend below the area of the original wound and may continue to thicken for up to 6 months before gradually improving over a few years.

Yes, unfortunately they are, however medical treatments such as microneedling or sublative resurfacing can improve the texture and appearance of them.

Regenerative treatments such as fractional lasers, microneedling and deep chemical peels are effective enough to diminish old scar tissue and increase natural collagen production to refine the skin’s texture and appearance.

Unfortunately scars can not be removed completely, treatments such as fractional resurfacing and microneedling can significantly improve the appearance and texture.

Not for old scars, but if a scar is fresh and still healing it can help to lock in moisture and help keep bacteria out.

It can appear as a fine line, a pitted hole on the skin’s surface, or an abnormal overgrowth of tissue.
